TARIC Burial Coordination Information Showing we Care!

A love one has died and you are the next of kin.

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the Qur'an: "Every soul shall have a taste of death: and only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the fire and admitted to the garden will have attained the object (of life): for the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception." Al Imran 185.

Since death is inevitable we shall at one time or another be called upon to take care of the arrangements of a dear one and we should be prepared. The TARIC Islamic Centre will do everything possible to assist but there are some things which individuals are required to do and these are listed here.

If the person died in the hospital, the staff will take the necessary steps to ensure that a doctor pronounces the person dead and to issue the death certificate. If death occurred at home, the doctor's office or 911 has to be called so that the coroner can investigate and issue the death certificate.

Four phone calls have to be made:

1)       Contract AFTERCARE (or some other Funeral Agency)

2)       If you haven't already purchased a grave call Dr. Farouk Ghany to reserve one

3)      Call Beechwood Cemetery to purchase the grave and to arrange for opening and closing it.

4)      Contact TARIC to arrange for the Imam to lead the Janaza prayer and to ensure that the Gym is available.

The first thing you will have to do is choose a funeral home. TARIC recommends "AFTERCARE" because of their excellent service and low cost. Contact Brother Meer Khan (416) 785 0166, or Doug (416) 440 8878.

You will need a grave, and TARIC has reserved sites at Beechwood Cemetery in North York and at the Brampton Memorial Gardens in Brampton. The grave will have to be purchased, opened and closed and arrangements for this has to be made. Graves from the TARIC area must first be released by Dr. Farouk Ghany (905) 823 5063, Pager (416) 378 1828 and purchased from Beechwood (905) 669 1827, Isaac (home) (905) 669 5115 fax (905) 669 3688.

You will need four or five brothers or sisters depending on the sex of the deceased, to perform the Ghusl (bath) for the individual. These must be Muslims and should be the close relatives and friends of the deceased.

Once these phone calls are made and the process is in motion, the events that will unfold are as follows:

AFTERCARE will transfer the deceased from the place of death to their holding facility. If the funeral is the same day then it may be taken to either the Jami mosque, the Madina mosque or the Bayview mosque where facilities for washing the body are available. After preparation, the deceased is transferred by AFTERCARE to TARIC where family and friends will congregate to pray Salat ul Janaza. The deceased is then transferred to the cemetery where burial will take place.

AFTERCARE will prepare all documents as required by vital statistics, Coroner's and Cemeteries' Acts. They will also provide five (5) original copies of the death certificate.
